TAMASHIMA Instameet which took place in Hachijojima and Okutama in 2017 ended in a great success. It is decided to be held at Niijima and Akiruno 2018 and the first event was held 3 days on 6th (Sat)– 8th(Mon) October in "Niijima island".
The purpose of this event is to have more people know and have actual experience of "Nature Tokyo", the face different from "Big city Tokyo".
The participants had a joyful time not only for taking photos of the beautiful landscape but also having full experience the charm of Niijima through camping, surfing, local food and an exchange with locals. Moreover, a the famous Japanese Instagrammers participated as a guest; "@moonlightice" whose followers are about 500,000 people in the world and "@bemytravelmuse" who beautifully cuts off various superb views in the world by her original viewpoint.
19 people from 8 countries participated in the event despite that Typhoon No.25 was coming on the day. We report the event where many people from outside and inside country had an interaction to make new wave of sports and culture, which was held in a mecca of surfing.
On a beautiful clear day, nice breeze blows from mountain in the island. Fashionable tarps, benches and lamps look delightful for participants in the place. A free campsite "Habushiura park" is the place where people gather regardless of their nationality, age and gender. Complete the application, put a wristband and take a ceremonial picture right away. After all, Niijima is a holy site for surfing.
Experience surfing and body-board lectured by local surfers and professional body borders on the Habushiura coast where the
contrast between white sand and blue ocean is beautiful!
Everyone from beginners to experiencers challenged boldly towards the powerful wave of Niijima. We wish this experience
will be a trigger for starting surfing and body-board.
Did you know that? Actually, the landmark in Shibuya "Moai statue" is made of Koga stone in Niijima. Making Koga stone planting by hand while listening such story from the teacher, which is one-of-a-kind in the memories of this event. It would be nice to have wonderful landscape of the island in a sea-crafting photo stand which is made of seashells and driftwood picked up on the beach in Niijima!
A lot of people participated in beach yoga meditating in the morning sun, lectured by a yoga teacher who is practicing in Niijima. As she said "This island has a wonderful prana flowing from the sea and mountains", really comforting wind is blowing. Everyone forgot their daily rush and enjoyed relaxing yoga. After the yoga experience, everyone looked refreshing!
One of the enjoyments in camping is BBQ, having some fun grilling and eating all together!
At the main venue 'Habushiura Park' camp site, the participants formed a circle to
enjoy grilling and eating meat and vegetables, as they were talking about what they experienced in Niijima.
Their relationships got closer, and plentifully prepared food quickly
disappeared.
At the main venue, all the participants enjoyed handmade island cuisine (salt-grilled tokabe, Ashitaba rice ball, dumpling soup, sweet potato rice cake etc.) made by women from the Local Cuisine Community, with comfortable music which was specially selected by WAX; the legendary beach event. Each of participants spent their own special evening in Niijima. It was nice to see that the guest influencers and participants pleasantly showing each other’s pictures. In the final phase, the islanders and participants danced together the inherited dance in Niijima "Tairyo-bushi", which was the most exciting moment in the event.
Souvenir shops, cafes and izakayas are always filled with nice smiles of customers and shop clerks in Niijima. We held an Insta Rally event where you travel around various shops and
sightseeing spots and take pictures so that you can enjoy the taste of Niijima and exchange with the locals in shops.
